I welcome the Scottish Government’s support for the North-east with their £8.5million Just Transition Fund.
£5.3million of this fund has been allocated to projects in my constituency, with two of the four projects chosen located in Peterhead and Fraserburgh.
£2.9m has been earmarked for Maritime Developments Ltd at their Peterhead Cable Handling Facility and £2.4m for Enabling Renewable Energy Infrastructure at Fraserburgh Harbour.
This new funding was announced by the First Minister, John Swinney, on a visit to the official opening of Scotland’s largest energy transition skills hub at North East Scotland College in Aberdeen, a new centre of excellence which will train young people for highly skilled roles in the growing renewables sector. It signals a clear and pragmatic commitment from the Scottish Government in backing clean energy jobs, economic development and local communities in the North-east as part of a sustainable and prosperous energy transition.
This kind of concrete and targeted investment in our local workforce, businesses and communities is a vital part of ensuring they remain front and the centre of the transition to renewables and our net zero future.
