I’m backing the SNP candidate for the Peterhead South and Cruden council by-election, Angus Matheson’s decision to write to Morrisons Supermarkets following their announcement they are to close their Morrisons Daily Store which hosts Clerkhill Post Office.
Mr Matheson has asked the supermarket giant to hold-off implementing the closure to give Post Office bosses time to find a new base for the Post Office and I believe he is absolutely right to highlight this. This announcement from Morrisons has come as a bolt from the blue and many people in Clerkhill will be worried about the potential loss of their Post Office.
Morrisons have said that the store won’t close before 17th July but if no new home has been found for the Post Office by that time then Morrisons absolutely need to step-up and support Peterhead, just as Peterhead has supported Morrisons to the tune of millions of pounds for all these years.
