As one of 20 founding supporters of a new Parliamentary Poverty Prevention Caucus, I’ll be working together with cross party parliamentarians to prevent poverty and reduce inequality.
In Aberdeenshire North and Moray East, it is estimated that 2264 households are living on below the average income, underlining the urgency of coordinated action at both a local and national level.
The Caucus, supported by Taxpayers Against Poverty in partnership with Compassion in Politics, aims to bring together MPs from across political parties to promote practical, forward-looking solutions that reduce hardship, strengthen communities, and deliver long-term economic value.
As part of my commitment, I’ve signed a unified parliamentary pledge:
“I pledge to prioritise policies preventing poverty and inequality, acting with integrity, respect, and compassion in Parliament and my constituency.”
The Parliamentary Poverty Prevention Caucus will work alongside parliamentarians, experts and other groups, to advance policies designed to prevent the causes of poverty.
A launch event is planned in Westminster later this year, in collaboration with parliamentary groups focused on poverty and compassionate politics.
Alongside the parliamentary pledge, Taxpayers Against Poverty has also launched a public petition calling on the government to make tackling priority one of its key priorities.
