I’m very pleased to read about North East Scotland Preservation Trust’s funding award from the National Lottery Heritage Fund.
The Trust’s Marbles Creative Hub project at Portsoy will receive £361,400 of development funding, around 88% of the total eligible costs, as a first step towards potential subsequent delivery funding from the Heritage Fund for this project.
The Marble Workshop is part of a significant complex of eighteenth-century buildings related to the historic trade in local marble, grain, and fishing in the Old Harbour in Portsoy and is in the care of NESPT. This development funding will support the development of NESPT’s plans to repair and protect the building and breathe new life into the space through the creation of a sustainable creative hub, providing space for local artists to create their art and crafts, sell their work, and deliver workshops.
I am so pleased for the NESPT that they have been awarded this National Lottery Heritage funding, which will be a real game changer for their Marbles Heritage Hub and for the local community.
We have a great tradition of artistry, crafting and music in Portsoy, so I’m excited to see how these two historically significant and well-loved buildings, the Marble Warehouse and Marble Workshop, develop under the Trust’s plans. I look forward to the opening of this new Hub and wish them well with this important project.
