The 2026 Mary Duncan Swim Gala took place on Saturday (28 February) at the Fraserburgh Community and Sports Centre.
The event, promoted by Grampian Disability Sport, caters for swimmers with disabilities of all ages who can swim at least 25 metres. Along with dozens of competitors, parents and carers, around 30 volunteers attended ensuring a safe and professionally run event.
I was honoured to be invited at attend along with local councillors Doreen Mair and Dianne Beagrie. Sport is a tremendous medium for encouraging participation, camaraderie and peer support not just for the athletes but for parents and carers too. This is true for all of us but especially for children and young people with additional support needs.
A big thank you to this fabulous charity and their volunteers, and for the privilege of being asked to present a medal to one of the winners.
